Technology Development Fund Scheme: Achieving Atmanirbharta in Defence
As said by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, “You must first dream for the dream to come true”, India saw a dream of indigenizing majority of its defence equipments, reducing the dependency on other nations and becoming a world leader in manufacturing and export of defence equipments. With the incorporation of Technology Development scheme of DRDO, journey towards self-reliance for capability building of our tri-services was enhanced. Critical projects, some that could be life changing for our defence forces are being developed by Indian industry through grant-in-aid under the scheme and mentorship by DRDO. With 25% defence budget 2022-23 earmarked for industry, MSME, startup and academia, it is evident that the focus of the government is on indigenization through industry and the scheme capitalizes on this.
On 2nd July 2022, Director General DTDF, DRDO, Shri Hari Babu Srivastava and Director, DTDF, DRDO, Smt. Nidhi Bansal attended a seminar organized by Uttarakhand Industry Associations on TDF scheme where they briefed the industries and media about the scheme, recent enhancements in the scheme, processes, upcoming opportunities, benefits for the industries etc. The industries utilized the opportunity for getting all their doubts cleared and understood their critical role in the nation’s indigenization efforts for the defence ecosystem.
The session concluded with a knowledge transfer of the current and upcoming opportunities available to Indian industries and the success stories of TDF scheme. That the scheme serves as a foundation for self-reliance in the development of state-of-the-art defence systems and sub-systems was meticulously highlighted in the session. By the end of the event, industries were aware that the government has set the foundation, the ball is in their court now to set the wheel of innovation and indigenous development moving.
